Tradeoff between estimation performance and sensor usage in distributed localisation problems

چکیده
In distributed sensor networks, the tradeoff between application performance and resource consumption is a fundamental issue. In this paper, we analyze the tradeoff in the context of localization problems. In particular, the localization performance is characterized using the Cramer-Rao lower bound which reflects the performance limit in the family of unbiased estimators. For a variety of distance-sensitive sensing models, the bound comes in closed-form. In view of the tradeoff, we design a circular incremental inclusion scheme for efficient sensor tasking and propose to use the theoretical Cramer-Rao lower bound as a guiding heuristic. Our results reveal that there is a performance limit for collaborative sensing, and the expansion of sensing group size incurs fast diminishing returns on performance. The study results in new insights and provides general guidelines for sensor tasking in practical applications.

Tracking performance of incremental LMS algorithm over adaptive distributed sensor networks
in this paper we focus on the tracking performance of incremental adaptive LMS algorithm in an adaptive network. For this reason we consider the unknown weight vector to be a time varying sequence. First we analyze the performance of network in tracking a time varying weight vector and then we explain the estimation of Rayleigh fading channel through a random walk model. Closed form relations a...

Due to the resource constraint and dynamic parameters, reducing energy consumption became the most important issues of wireless sensor networks topology design. All proposed hierarchy methods cluster a WSN in different cluster layers in one step of evolutionary algorithm usage with complicated parameters which may lead to reducing efficiency and performance. In fact, in WSNs topology, increasin...

Maximizing the aggregate network utility and minimizing the network energy consumption are important but conflict goals in wireless sensor networks. Challenges arise due to the application-specific computing and communication resources constraints and end-to-end real-time constraints. This paper studies the tradeoff between energy consumption and network performance in Real-Time Wireless Sensor...
متن کاملA New Mathematical Approach based on Conic Quadratic Programming for the Stochastic Time-Cost Tradeoff Problem in Project Management
In this paper, we consider a stochastic Time-Cost Tradeoff Problem (TCTP) in PERT networks for project management, in which all activities are subjected to a linear cost function and assumed to be exponentially distributed. The aim of this problem is to maximize the project completion probability with a pre-known deadline to a predefined probability such that the required additional cost is min...
